Product Description

Material:  Purple Clay Sand (Chinese: 紫泥)

Yixing clay teapots are made from Yixing clay. This traditional style commonly used to brew tea originated in China, dating back to the 15th century, and are made from clay produced in the region of the town of Yixing in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu.

Yixing clay is a type of clay from the region near the city of Yixing in Jiangsu province, China. Its use dates back to the Song Dynasty (960 - 1279) when purple clay was first mined around Lake Taihu in China.

Yixing teapots are meant for use with black  and oolong teas, as well as aged puer tea. They can also be used for green  or white tea, but the water must be allowed to cool to around 85 degrees Celsius before pouring the water into the pot.
